QWETU SACCO LTD was founded in 1968 by about 200 visionary teachers who pooled together part of their salary as contributions with the objective of growing financially and socially. In 1976 the society was officially registered.
Since its formation forty years ago, the SACCO has positively mutated attaining significant milestones. In 2000, Front Office Service Activities (FOSA) was introduced. Microcredit section was opened in 2003 leading to opening of the ‘Common Bond’ thus incorporating others who were not necessary teachers. The SACCO is regulated by SASRA since 2012.
Today the SACCO society has a total membership of more than 34,000 drawn from Primary, Secondary and Technical schools, Lecturers from Training colleges including others from office of the president, County government, Ministry of Health, Businessmen, KNUT and Qwetu society’s staff.
